It was a goalless draw at the Stadio Picchi, although both sides had their chances. Larrivey nearly gave Cagliari the lead nine minutes in, but his shot with the outside of his right foot clipped the upright with Alfonso De Lucia beaten. Federico Marchetti used his legs to parry an Alessandro Grandoni effort from close range. Candreva's screamer from 20 metres took a decisive deflection to rescue Marchetti, then at the other end De Lucia beat away an Andrea Cossu right-foot strike from the edge of the box.
